Solksjaer Finally Speaks On De Gea Errors With The United Boss Set To Dump The Goalkeeper For West Ham Clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists David de Gea is mentally strong enough to cope with his dramatic loss of form.

De Gea’s United place is under threat after his latest high-profile errors in Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.

Solskjaer did not confirm whether De Gea will keep his place for tomorrow’s Premier League visit of West Ham to Old Trafford, with United needing a win to move up to fourth in the race for a Champions League place.

Sergio Romero is ready to step in if Solskjaer decides to take De Gea out of the firing line, but the United boss insists his No.1 has the strength of character to overcome his current crisis of confidence.

“This is not going to become a David De Gea press conference, we’re just going to stick together,” said Solskjaer.

“David’s mentally strong enough to know his job is to perform in training the next day and be ready for the games.

“That’s your job to talk about and write about it, and my job is to prepare a team for West Ham.

“We’re not going to talk about individuals because no-one here will fear we put more pressure on them.

“When you lose a game you’re hurt, disappointed, but you focus on the next thing.

“Defeat is not the end of the world, it was end of our FA Cup dream and hopes of getting to the final, but it’s business as usual and onto the next game.

“We’ve had so many setbacks as a club, we’ve games before and now we have to put on a performance.”
